Best Buddieshttps://bestbuddies.org/
Best Buddies is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with IDD. For individuals within this community, Best Buddies helps them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communications skills, and feel valued by society. Starting a Best Buddies Chapter is a great start to improving interactions and starting friendships for all individuals in a school. |
Special Olympicshttp://www.specialolympics.org/
Through the power of sports, people with intellectual disabilities discover new strengths and abilities, skills and success. Our athletes find joy, confidence and fulfillment -- on the playing field and in life. They also inspire people in their communities and elsewhere to open their hearts to a wider world of human talents and potential. Here's a slideshow showing the full spectrum of our activities. Starting Unified Sports Teams allows peers with and without disabilities and opportunity to play recreational sports together and develop friendships. |
